One thing I never really thought of when making the move from Florida to Chicago a decade or so ago was how the seasons would impact my beer drinking.
But when the winter turns to spring and a week later summer and a week later back to spring, thoughts turn to light beers, Corona and of course the Shandy.
Now, Leinenkugel is known for its traditional Summer Shandy, which is lemon flavored. They also have a Lemon-Berry version I’m not as fond of. Then a few weeks back when the sun was actually out I was perusing the aisles of my local Binny’s and saw a sampler pack with the lemon and berry varieties along with a “new” orange version.
I’m a citrus fan so lemon, lime or orange in anything is good, alcohol or not.
How does the Orange Shandy taste?
It’s exceptionally sweet. I mean Orangina sweet. That’s actually what I tell people it tastes like. It tastes like Orangina with a hint of beer.
While that may sound absolutely disgusting in black and white digital type, it is actually quite refreshing and that is what a shandy is all about.
Is it for everyone? No. Like I said, I don’t like the berry flavor, but if you’re a citrus lover and/or Orangina fan this is clearly a summer drink you have to try. Getting an ice cold can handed to you on a hot summer day is what life is all about if you ask me.
Now if only I could find it on sale by itself outside the confining sampler pack…
