Of First Birthdays and Birthday Cake

Cakes

Carter turned one today, but had his first birthday party on Saturday. It was a low key affair with just five guests, just family. I’ve never understood the huge parties some folks throw for a first birthday. I’m doubting Carter will remember anything about it.

Anyway, I hope he doesn’t because he was unusually shy and fussy the whole entire time.  We were really lazy hosts and ordered some take and bake pizzas from Homemade Pizza. I love to cook but it was really easy to host and just throw some pizzas into the oven.

We got the cakes from Alliance Bakery in Chicago. If you live anywhere near Alliance you should try it out. Not only did the cakes taste great but we were struck dumb by how awesome they looked. We patterned them off of Carter’s favorite book, Hooray for Fish! And they turned out great. Carter wouldn’t’ touch his little smash cake and threw kind of a fit, but it tasted great the next day Mrs. Therapy says.

I’m not sure what will happen for birthday two when Carter will have a better idea of what’s going on and will have a little sister crawling around.
