Lollapalooza 2007 Thoughts: Pearl Jam?!

Even though we’ve been in the city for the past two Lollapaloozas we haven’t yet gone. The first year it just sounded silly. Then the reports of how awful it was came out. Everyone had a horrible time. So, we didn’t bother going last year, which everyone said was good, besides the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Well, this year we bought tickets, mainly because we knew Pearl Jam was going to headline.

Even though I’m a music nerd I have this deep devotion to Pearl Jam a good fifteen-plus years after I first heard them. Most people on message boards, Chicago blogs etc. keep joking about PJ like they’re some stuck-in-the-90s act a la Stone Temple Pilots. They’re actually one of the few ‘90s bands to keep releasing new records all the way up to today. They’re also an amazing live band and I think one of the few on the bill that can play to 100,000 people with ease. Good pick Lolla organizers.

Here are the other acts I’m looking forward to seeing:

  • Interpol

  • My Morning Jacket
  • The Black Keys
  • Spoon
  • Amy Winehouse
  • Son Volt
  • The Polyphonic Spree
  • Ted Leo
  • Chin Up Chin Up

Will Also try to catch

  • Ben Harper
  • Muse
  • Iggy and the Stooges
  • Patti Smith
  • Modest Mouse
  • The Roots
  • TV On the Radio
